Michigan plastics molder adding 40 jobs, investing $5.8M at 2 plants – MLive.com

SHERIDAN, MI Wright Plastic Products, a company that makes molded plastic parts for cars, plans to create 40 new jobs and invest $5.8 million in new equipment at its plants in Montcalm and St. Clair counties.

“We have been growing very rapidly since we made a couple of really good decisions during the recession,” said company president Bob Luce, whose company also operates a plant in Madisonville, Tenn., south of Knoxville.

“Over the past eight years, Wright Plastic Products Co. has grown very rapidly, adding a facility in Tennessee, expanding our plant in St. Clair and adding numerous horizontal, rotary and two-shot injection molding machines,” Luce said.

“That growth continues, requiring a further expansion of our St. Clair plant and numerous additional two-shot machines in both our St. Clair and Sheridan plants.

Wright plans to hire 25 new employees at its plant in St. Clair after it expands the building and installs three new plastic injection molding machines, Luce said. The St. Clair facility currently employs about 30 workers in three shifts.

The company also plans to hire about 15 new employees at its plant in Sheridan, about 45 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. The company currently employs about 90 workers in Sheridan.

“Wright Plastic Products’ expansion here rather than another state means good jobs for Michigan residents and underscores the strength of the state’s manufacturing talent,” said Jennifer Nelson, executive vice president of the Michigan Economic Development Corp..

“The decision by Wright Plastic Products to invest in Michigan offers further evidence our commitment to helping companies grow and generate new jobs for our residents.”

The city of St. Clair is giving the company tax abatement valued at $143,000. “We look forward to the additional job opportunities this will create for both local and regional residents in St. Clair County.” said Mayor Bill Cedar in a July 12 news release.

“The county’s economy grows when companies like this make these strategic investments that retain and create jobs,” said Dan Casey, CEO of the Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County. “So we’re very appreciative that Wright Plastic Products continues to expand here.”

“The Montcalm Economic Alliance and The Right Place are pleased and grateful that Wright Plastic Products has chosen to further invest and expand in our community,” said Kathy Jo VanderLaan, business development coordinator for the Montcalm County office of The Right Place, Inc.

“We look forward to working with them as they continue to grow as a strategic supplier to automotive and other industries.”
